Condition: Hands
What is it?
Hands have a skin structure all their own. Because of their thin skin and exposure to external aggressors such as wind, cold, water, household products and the sun, they can suffer premature skin aging. As the skin's texture changes, it becomes visibly thinner and drier, veins become more apparent, and wrinkles and spots may appear.
Did you know that?
Thinning, dryness and chronic skin fragility specific to the hands are mainly the result of reduced production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.
What are the causes?
Skin aging can be attributed to a number of factors. Nevertheless, we can distinguish several main causes of this phenomenon:
The natural aging process
Over time, skin dries out, the natural production of collagen and elastin slows down and cell renewal diminishes. As a result, the appearance of wrinkles, hollows and spots becomes more pronounced over the years, and are more visible on the face, neck, décolleté and hands.
Sun exposure
Sun exposure, especially if not accompanied by adequate UV protection, leads to an increase in melanin production, a reduction in collagen and elastin production, and a marked increase in skin dryness. Gradually, skin structure changes, skin becomes thinner and signs of skin ageing such as wrinkles and spots become more visible - particularly on the hands, since they are exposed to UV rays on a daily basis.
Bad care habits
While it's very important to wash your hands several times a day to prevent the spread of bacteria, there's no point in overdoing it, as it destroys the skin's hydrolipidic film - its protective barrier. What's more, the cold accentuates skin dryness, and not wearing gloves contributes to accelerated skin ageing of the hands.
How to prevent?
To limit direct contact with household products - whose formulation can be particularly harsh on the skin - and thus protect the health of the skin on your hands, we strongly recommend that you wear household or dishwashing gloves. In addition, it's important to use a mild, pH-neutral soap for hand washing, to respect the skin's natural protective barrier. Finally, the application of a sunscreen - preferably mineral - is essential. As for the face and the rest of the body, sunscreen will reduce the appearance of spots and wrinkles, and effectively combat sagging skin.
Like the face, hands need to be exfoliated once a week to remove dead cells and stimulate cell regeneration. In addition, it's essential to apply a moisturizing cream to the hands every day, to nourish their protective hydrolipidic film.
How to treat?
Volumizing injections
Fighting the loss of volume experienced over the years, the hyaluronic acid used in this type of injection is a synthesized formula of the molecule naturally present in the human body, which contributes to skin elasticity and whose reserves and production diminish with age. As this synthesized hyaluronic acid can absorb more than a thousand times its molecular weight in water, it naturally restores skin volume. Face, neck, décolleté and hands: skin is deeply rehydrated and visibly plumped.
Photorejuvenation
The pulsed light platforms chosen by Dermapure can be used to correct pigmentation imperfections such as spots. Sent in pulses, the light targets color contrasts under the skin to dry out and eliminate small blood vessels and visible brown or red spots.
